RELEASE: Gottheimer Hosts NJ-5 Hispanic Small Business Owners, Honors National Hispanic American Heritage Month

On Tuesday, October 6, 2020, Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) brought together Fifth District Hispanic small business owners to highlight their resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic and to honor National Hispanic Heritage Month, all while continuing to fight for a second round of PPP loans to help small businesses in North Jersey survive this crisis and recover.
"This month of celebration and commemoration also comes during a time when the Latino community is being disproportionately affected by the coronavirus crisis. Latinos are on the frontlines of the pandemic, helping provide the food on our tables, cleaning our hospitals, teaching our children, and protecting our communities by serving on the frontlines as health care workers, caregivers, and first responders," said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). "As we work through this crisis, and recover and grow as a community, we also need to ensure we're working to combat the economic and health inequities exposed by this pandemic. I continue to be optimistic, and just as we've seen the Latino and Hispanic community and all of North Jersey band together during these difficult times, I believe we will be even stronger on the other side."

National Hispanic American Heritage Month is celebrated every year from September 15th to October 15th to honor the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans. This observation originated in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was then expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover this 30-day period, from mid-September to mid-October.
